I’m here with Barbara Motley with BMADE. She is a designer, she has an amazing line of products, from 3D paintings to t-shirts with her own designs, to books that she’s written. Hi Barbara.

Hi Elizabeth. This painting, I’m still working on it, it’s called Yahweh’s daughter. I plan to get toothpicks, paint them gold and put them here like for the accessory in the hair and paint some gold buttons and put inside for the necklace to be like 3D.

And you’ve typically been selling these at shows right?

Yes, art exhibits and street vending, when I go vending I take a few paintings but mostly I take t shirts and handbags. Yes I hand paint on handbags.

Right now of course you can’t do that but people can still get your work because they can get it through Facebook they can message you on Facebook and get your work there.

Yes

This is beautiful do you have another you have another one that you want to show?

Yes I have this one I don’t know if you could see that I hand painted vines.

Is that for sale right now?

Yes, it is oil, I mostly work in oil but I do graphite and watercolor.

Do you do custom pieces for people?

Yes I have done custom t-shirts, a lot of people like portraits on t-shirts.  They can get them through the mail, order online and get them through the mail.

You have a number of different designs on t-shirts right?

Yes that is correct.

Do you have pictures of most of these on your Facebook page?

On my Instagram page.

What is your handle on Instagram and Facebook?

Instagram is Baabs_Motley or BMADE.  Facebook is Motley Barbara.

So people can go there and get a good idea of what you have, they can message you at Facebook and they can buy them from you during quarantine even and you can mail them to them.

Correct.

How long have you been doing this?

I started out when I was eight.  Years ago the teachers would have me hand paint on a window. You take some peg paint or acrylic paint and you put soap in it and that would help it stick to the window.

How many pieces do you think you’ve sold over the years do you have any idea?

No, but a lot I’m sure.  And I sold out of my book but I can get more printed if someone wants a copy.

The book is called Art In My Eyes. I did it in the memory of my mom and I dedicated it to my elder sister

Nice and they can see some of the paintings that are in there on your Facebook page.

Facebook, yes.

That’s a nice collection of your work.

This one is called Praise Dancing.

You’re selling your artwork now, you have pieces ready to go.

Yes.

People who want books can order them and get them from you, you can do t-shirts,  do you do your t-shirts yourself at home?

Yes.

So you can do t-shirts, anything anybody would want right now you can do for them.

Yes.

So if somebody has a special birthday coming up in say, June sometime, and they can’t find anything they like they can find you on Facebook.

Yes that’s correct. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or Twitter.

Okay great is there anything else we should say about your business BMADE?

BMADE stands for Barbara Motley Art Design Education. I would like to teach what I do; I was going to say young people but actually anybody who wants to learn.

You have a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York correct?

First I went to the  Art Institute, from there I went to FIT for fashion design and then years later I went to Essex County for media publishing and print.

My vision is to instill what Christ gave me to share with others.  I guess they call it pay it forward so that’s my vision is to help others to be successful so I can help other people.

That’s a beautiful vision.

Yes.

I’m sure a lot of people would love to be able to do what you can do.  Everybody look for Barbara on Facebook, see her artwork, get in touch with her if you want something, she’ll be happy to help you.

And I’m working on something with Lisa but that’s a secret.

So stay tuned everybody!

Yes, stay tuned!
