Hi! I’m Elizabeth Gearhart, I’m sitting here with James Klobucar, a senior associate patent, trademark and copyright attorney at Gearhart law. So let’s get right to the point.
James, why would I hire you to do my intellectual property?

I’ve been doing this for close to 10 years now. I’ve written hundreds of patent applications. I’ve done hundreds, if not thousands, of office action responses and I’ve obtained hundreds of patents for clients, so the experience and the track record is really there from an IP perspective.

I really think that working with the inventors is something that I really enjoy. They’re trying to solve a particular problem and it may be something that’s very dear to them, it may be just a passing thought, but everyone has their own motivations and it’s really rewarding and enriching to help them out in terms of reaching that end goal, which is getting the patent on their project.

Because oftentimes you are working with these people for upwards of three four years, sometimes even longer depending on the project, the company etc., so you do really get to know them, you do get invested in what they’re doing, and you do want to see them be successful. You know in the end when you have someone that is equally invested and wants to see your success I think that’s beneficial for both parties. In the end we find a way to make it work.

So who’s the man behind the lawyer?

The man behind the lawyer grew up in the Midwest, made my way out here to the East Coast for law school. I’ve been out here ever since. I really enjoy it. Outside of the profession I certainly do enjoy outdoor activities, skiing, fishing if I get the chance. I also have family that keeps me very busy, a wife and a new daughter, so my life is very busy professionally and
personally but you wouldn’t trade it for anything.
